If you’re going to run illicit poker games, a derelict 1960’s camper van is the least suspicious location. And I’m all about subtlety…obviously…

The Shoot

This once cheery caravan was the quintessential backdrop to a 1960’s beach holiday. Froger and I made it anything but.
You see, photography locations aren’t about the hand you’re dealt, they’re about what you do with it. We do retro lingerie and grungy interiors, which means we make magic in locations others wouldn’t touch! I love that our shoots don’t use stereotypical pin up ‘pretty’ backdrops and studios.

The playing cards were among the scattered debris, covered in a layer of dust. Feeling nostalgic for the rainy day card games we put them to use. Playing in my knickers is the only way I’ll ever win at poker!

Pip & Pantalaimon Lingerie Review

Can we talk about this Pip & Pantalaimon bodysuit for a sec? IT’S. SO.CUTE.

Froger calls it the Bubblegum outfit, It’s custom made to match those glossy white and pink heels. While the shoes in his kit are always too big for my teensy feet, this bodysuit was made to fit me ( and any other model he shoots my size, so get in there ladies! ). Made in white stretch mesh and satin, it sports hot pink trim – straps, garters and contrast stitching.

Soft cup bras are more comfortable on augmented breasts than underwires, and this is no exception. No digging or pinching here! The bodysuit feels soft and snug, like a firm hug, giving less compression than serious shapewear while still smoothing the silhouette.  As a seamstress I’m telling you the pink spiral stitching on the cups and front panel is PERFECT. I wish I had a close up to show you but the sun washed out the detail in these shots.

Basically, I’ll be spending some of my hard earned cash on their lingerie. Because it’s niiiiiiiiiiice. Because I believe in supporting small businesses. Because Froger won’t appreciate me stealing this from his kit. And because twelve clip garter belts. TWELVE CLIPS ladies, you have no idea of the comfort.

*As usual, I didn’t get paid or sponsored to gush about this. I just get excited about sharing stuff I love with you guys!*

7 Truths for Pin Up Modelling | Insider Secrets from Photographer Froger

Working with photographers. Obviously a fairly vital part of modelling or performing and one that’s full of pitfalls for the unwary ! Photographers and models often learn through experience and the lessons aren’t always pleasant, so I can vouch for the value of this week’s Insider Secrets – whether you’re in front of the camera or holding it.

Without further ado, I give you my trusted photographer Froger’s tips for models . ( Or as I call it ” how to get great photos and not piss off your photographer ” ).  While I removed the swear words and added a few side notes, this is some hard truth served on the rocks. Drink up.

Froger Photo Tips for models |The Beckoning Blog

  1.  If we organise a shoot, show up. Show up on time. If we’re doing a lingerie shoot make sure you partner understands what we’re doing and is okay with it.
This goes both ways, I’ve had photographers not show up for shoots after I’ve spent hours on costuming, hair and makeup. Not cool.
  2. Do your homework regarding photographers. There’s heaps of creeps out there so make sure you understand the big picture with ‘sexy’ shoots and don’t let anyone take advantage of you.
Check out your photographer’s work and references before you agree to anything. Talk to people they’ve worked with. Make sure you like their style – not every photographer’s style is going to suit you and the image you’re trying to create for yourself.
  3. Pay attention to details. Details are everything. Little things like foot placement are huge in the final outcome of a shot so try to be aware of your body.
  4. Work on emotions in the mirror. If the photographer says “give me thoughtful” it’s cool if you have an expression you’ve practiced.
  5. Know what works and what doesn’t for your body. For example: If you don’t like your nose or tummy in profile, find poses that minimise things you dislike and maximise those you do so you can help your photographer get a shot you’ll love. Don’t wait until after the shoot to point out things you don’t like.
  6. Don’t edit photos given to you. The photographer gives you image the way they want them displayed. Don’t Instagram them with filters or remove the photographers watermark, that sucks.
  7. This depends on the photographer but I like to show the models how the shots are looking and get a feedback loop happening. A good model can quickly see what they need to do to improve the image. It also gives the model a chance to have input – be creative, it’s a two way street and I love models that bounce ideas around!

So there you have it. Every photographer and model will be different but common courtesy, good communication and practice go a long way to ensuring a successful photo shoot! You can visit some of the rad shoots I’ve done with Froger here, here and here to see these tips in action.

How beautiful is the vintage fawn skin bag in the photo above? Unsurprisingly it’s part of La Vonne’s personal collection, I nicknamed it ‘The Bambi Bag’.

Oh and did I mention Elvis stopped by? He’s such a hoot!
