Reading in Lingerie | Miss DeCollete Learns Deportment

Reading in Lingerie | Miss DeCollete Learns Deportment

Hello dear readers, and welcome to the latest installment of my Reading in Lingerie series. This week Miss DeCollete learns deportment, gets distracted by Mills & Boon and discovers the fine art of undressing!

I adore the fresh, innocent vibe of my latest collaboration with Froger, and I’m excited to share a few of my favourite images! We were inspired by the vintage romance novels found in a rural bach.  The kind of flowery romance novels that fill the heads of good girls with dreams of rugged men on the Scottish Moors. The kind of story that distracts a demure 1950’s lass from her deportment guide.

This delightful set of pinup photographs is available in full as a titillating e-book from Froger Photo.

Garter Snap Girl | A Bardot + Bellucci Inspired Pinup Shoot

Brigitte Bardot and Monica Belluci; two great style icons who inspired the style of this shoot. Part 1960’s ingenue, part bombshell, part Hitchcock heroine.

As always Froger captured the mood perfectly. Strategic lighting turned the lounge of a rundown historic hotel into the set of a retro thriller movie. (not that it was far off to begin with!).

See You Under The Mistletoe | A Christmas Pin Up

See You Under The Mistletoe | A Christmas Pin Up

Merry Christmas Darling!

If you celebrate Christmas I hope you’re with those you love, doing things you love. In my case that’s family time with waaaaaay to much food, and cuddles with my niece and nephews. (Good thing we took these photos before the eating began!).

Please drive safely this festive season, have or be a sober driver and look after yourselves. If you have extra please think of those who aren’t so lucky. Christmas and the New Year can be a very tough or lonely time and it doesn’t take much to make a big difference in someone’s life. We donated a big box of food to a charity that organises Christmas dinners for the elderly and those in need, so trust me it gives you the warm fuzzies.

On a lighter note – here’s me channeling Ms Claus! Should I put you on the naughty or the nice list this year ?

Is this what you wanted for Christmas? ( That little box sounds like diamonds, must be for me …)

A Purple Freak with Tan Lines

A Purple Freak with Tan Lines

Okay honesty time: this photoset is oooold, as in November 2015 old. I shared the photos on Facebook but never blogged them because I hated my super obvious tan lines. But ya know what? I’m naturally olive skinned. It’s hard for me to stay this pale, especially in the summer. So here it is – tan-lined legs and all – because I love this purple and black ensemble.

Outfit Breakdown

Headress | Velvet DeCollete
Corset | Corset Story
Gloves | Looksharp (embellished by Velvet)
Knickers | Kmart (Embellished by Velvet)
Fishnet Pantyhose | Columbine
Shoes | Pulp Noir

Made for working the merch stall at Burlesquefest 2015 this outfit is all about the purple. The gloves and knickers are embellished with hand stitched fabric hydrangeas and irridescent sequins (hello sewing in front of the TV), while the headdress features large glitter coated roses, leaves and black feather trim with dangling glass beads and tassels. The whole shebang has a ‘gothic showgirl meets fairy’ kind of vibe to it, which I love.

I was working on costume commissions for clients leading up to the event so didn’t have time to make my own corset. I picked this one up on sale from Corset Story. It’s more of a fashion corset and doesn’t pull me in around the waist at all, but that’s fine when you’re working in it for hours!

Public safety warning – sequined knickers will get caught on fishnet tights. Caution is advised when crouching or bending over.

I made the headdress in a few hours from supplies I had stashed away, the only thing I had to buy specifically for this was the base ( a plastic visor that I turned upright and covered with fabric ). Hairpieces and headdresses are one of those areas where you can really go crazy with contrasting textures and materials. The bigger the better!

The Pastel Sleep Set | A (Vintage) Lingerie Addict’s Diary

The Pastel Sleep Set | A (Vintage) Lingerie Addict’s Diary

Suzan Pecka Blue Vintage Nightgown | Velvet Decollete

“Suzan Pecka of Vienna
Made in New Zealand”

The label displays a brand and country of origin in slanting pink letters, but that’s all this mysterious sleep set gives away. Suzan Pecka of Vienna seems to have vanished from New Zealand and the world without a trace.  Apart from this sugary pastel confection that is.

Crafted in baby blue with swirling pink embroidery and ribbons this nightgown and jacket set is a slightly stiffer, more opaque synthetic fabric than most of my  sleepwear. Based on simple shapes the nightie hugs the bust with the aid of a triangular smocking panel. The jacket is rectangular in nature, its flat planes a perfect canvas to showcase delicate embroidered overlays.

The embroidery is a wide sinuous  border pattern on sheer nylon. Pale pink ribbon ties, narrow pink piping and a large rolled rose made of the embroidered nylon complete the feminine embellishment.

Suzan Pecka Blue Vintage Nightgown | Velvet Decollete

Lengthwise, I admit this set is a tad awkward on me. At 5.3″ the hem floats at mid calf, not a terrible length but not the best either. I feel a taller woman would find the hem sits just above the calf – a more flattering length accentuating the slimmer part of the leg and the curve of the calf muscle. While the stiffer fabric isn’t as comfortable as my Starway nightie the dreamy colourway makes up for it, and the set is still lovely to wear. I really enjoy having the matching jacket in case I feel like a teensy bit more coverage.

The Pink Satin Boudoir Robe | A (Vintage) Lingerie Addict’s Diary

The Pink Satin Boudoir Robe | A (Vintage) Lingerie Addict’s Diary

Pink satin vintage robe | Velvet DeCollete

Pink and I have a troubled past. I swore off it for years, refusing to be corralled into gender specified colour choices (even though for centuries pink was considered a very male colour). But with age and confidence has come the knowledge that this now overtly girly colour has a power of its own. It speaks of softness and curves and a feminine sexiness reminiscent of 1940’s movie vixens.

This boudoir robe is all of those things.

Made in England by David Nieper ,this peignoir is an early offering from a company  that has designed and manufactured in Derbyshire, UK since 1961. It’s 100 % polyester satin with specially softened lace trim. The layered ruffles and bell sleeves lend an almost rococo aesthetic to the loose, tie front style. It’s perfect for lounging around your boudoir with marabou trimmed mules and Jayne Mansfield hair.

I’m very grateful to have received this beautiful piece of nightwear as a birthday gift from my sister in law, who sent it to me in New Zealand all the way from the UK! The white brassiere you can see in the top photo is from Tock Tick Vintage.

Start Your Engines | A Bad Girl Photo shoot

Start Your Engines | A Bad Girl Photo shoot

Bad girls have more fun. Especially with big shiny Cadillacs and skintight powermesh skirts.

This set was shot almost a year ago, outside an imposing venue, next to a busy dog walking park. That’s right, wholesome citizens innocently walking their dogs saw a lot more than they expected. But that’s kind of what we do right?

Stylewise I wanted the silhouette of an 1950’s or early 60’s wiggle dress, but with the brazen sexiness of a retro grindhouse heroine. Layering garments of varying opacity and texture lent interest to the all black ensemble while creating a game of skin hide and seek for the viewer. Scroll down for a full outfit breakdown.

Who Do? Voodoo! A 1920’s Voodoo Cabaret Costume

Who Do? Voodoo! A 1920’s Voodoo Cabaret Costume

Halloween darlings …. the best holiday of the year.

Macabre temptress Bay of Bay Stagewear hosted a spooktacular pre-halloween shindig for those of us that feel one All Hallows Eve simply isn’t enough.
I was there with bells on.

Okay maybe not bells.
Or a shirt.
But there were definitely bones, feathers and a pair of green silk pasties.

voodoo priestess 193-s costume halloween

This is possibly my favourite last minute costume to date!

The Concept: I didn’t have a clear vision in mind when I started this costume, I just wanted something fun. Fun turned out to be a New Orleans Voodoo inspired 1920’s cabaret costume. I do believe it came out rather well.

The Makeup:  Influenced by stylized skull makeups and the lush greens of my headdress. I’m certainly no expert but I found a white eyeliner useful for mapping out the skull shape and mixing a little foundation with the facepaint helped it go on easier. Hit me up if you’d like a tutorial!

Scroll down for an Outfit Breakdown or click on the images to see the costume in more detail.

Just one piece of advice dears; If you happen to be storing a large box of cleaned animal bones for an occasion such as this – make sure you seal them with resin first or you might retrieve them to find a box of dusty bone shaped chalk!

Happy Halloween, see you on the other side!

Lilac Romantic | A Burlesque Costume

Lilac Romantic | A Burlesque Costume

Lilac Romantic –  that’s what I call this costume in my head. It’s kinda classically feminine yet sexy. It’s also kinda almost finished. (Update, since I wrote this post, it’s now finished! Some parts have changed, it’s encrusted with rhinestones and on tour in the USA!).edit 3

This soft lilac, mottled purple and black 5 piece burlesque costume consists of a boudoir robe, corset, panel skirt, bra and G string. It needs fittings and some adjustments to make it perfect, and a half ton of rhinestones need applying by it’s new owner. However I’ve been worked my butt off non stop to have the main parts done by an early deadline so it deserves to be seen!

I’m so excited to finish this and see it adorning MisRed Delicious as she struts (…grinds/shimmies/twerks..) her stuff!
