Florals for a Florist | A custom 1950’s Inspired Dress

Sometimes you meet people who put a smile on your dial in an instant. Samantha is one of those people.

We met at VVDO 2015, in the line for smoothies – as you do- and struck up a conversation over our respective clothing choices . Samantha’s enthusiasm and humour over the glories and pitfalls of pinup clothing was contagious and when she contacted me about a dress there was no way I could refuse!

She was after a dress to wear to a family wedding. As the florist she needed to retain an easy range of movement, but still wanted to look amazing. I wanted to create something that reflected her vivacious nature, showed off her stunning tattoos and made her feel special.

The resulting swing dress involves elements from the 50’s style gowns she loved, mixed with the modern comfort of a stretch cotton sateen. The bodice is fully boned for support and shaping. A bright floral print is colourful but doesn’t clash with her fiery red hair. Stretch mesh allows movement in the folded cowl around the slightly off-shoulder neckline, finished with feminine bow and a line of cobalt blue buttons.

I haven’t seen a photo from the day yet, but her squeals of excitement at her fittings leave me hopeful that she felt every bit as beautiful as she looked!
